Refugee Week
Face-to-Face Speaker and Refugee Week Ambassador Dalal Sleiman

Dalal

Dalal entered Australia as a refugee in February 1992. She attended the AMEP program to learn English and then enrolled at Victorian University to study for her bachelor’s degree in Community Development. In May 2013 she completed her Graduate Certificate in Australian Immigration Law and Practice from Victoria University.

Since she graduated in 1998, she has been working in the community sector and uses her skills to assist newly arrived migrant refugees and asylum seekers to resettle in Australia. She helps them with the process of being reunited with their families, find accommodation, financial difficulties and advocates on their behalf while dealing with legal, education employment, and health agencies.

She established the Australian Chaldean Family Welfare (ACFW), Chaldean Women Association in Victoria. Through her current role in the committee and as a team leader of settlement services she has been organising fortnightly meetings for (ACFW) and guest speakers about settlement services and mainstream services, referring members of the community and association to the right services, advocating on behalf of them, organising training for women, men, and youth in areas such as parenting, leadership and domestic violence, employment and education.

She also received the 2020 Australia Day Award from the City of Whittlesea Access and Inclusion, Refugee Recognition Awards from Victorian Multicultural Commission in 2006, and an Excellence award from Victorian Multicultural Commission in 2010.

You can book Dalal for a speaking presentation via our Face-to-Face program here.
